GENERAL MEETING MINUTES – January 12, 2011

CALL TO ORDER:  President, Colleen Comber called the meeting to order at 7:03pm.

MINUTES:  
Recording Secretary Paul Brown read the minutes from the November meeting.
Minutes were moved by 2nd Vice President Pat Campbell and seconded by 1st Vice President
Dale Van Camp. Minutes were accepted.  There were no additions, corrections or deletions.


CORRESPONDING SECRETARY:
Saturday March 5th is the Orange Empire Training in Santa Anna. It’s $50 per person per day.
Saturday is obedience training. Sunday is rally training. Contact Kathy Smith for more info.
The club was asked to join California Federation of Dog Clubs. The cost is $40 per year. They
donate, and are political activists for dog clubs. 2nd Vice President Pat Campbell moved that we
join. Becky Yohonn seconded. The motion was passed. Treasurer Valerie Brown will fill out the
application form and apply.
AKC sent information about the “lame duck vote”. AKC is sending a “taking command” letter about
what is dog related issues are happening in Congress. Kathy has it on file if anyone wishes to
read it.
Corresponding Secretary Kathy Smith encouraged eligible members to apply for the AKC breeder
of merit certification. It requires that applicants agree to test puppies per club rules; have bred
and finished five champions; and register all your puppies with the AKC.

TREASURER:  
The Christmas party auction made $536
Tote bags for the National Specialty cost $1148.68
Sportsman’s Insurance cost $571
Yahoo webhosting cost $12.95
Our current balance is $5502.09

OLD BUSINESS:   
1st Vice President Dale Van Camp discussed the 2011 National Chihuahua Specialty in April:
Schedule will be:
1.        The evening (6pm-9pm) of Wednesday April 27th is the welcoming party.
2.        Thursday 28th will be the Puppy Sweeps.
3.        Thursday night will be the top 20 event. Only the top 20 smooth and long coats are invited.
Invites are already sent. There will be three secret judges. You must buy tickets to attend. Tickets
are $20 pre-paid or $25 at the door.
4.        Friday 29th is confirmation.
5.        Juniors will be on the morning of Saturday 30th.
6.        Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st will be Chihuahua Club of America Confirmation.
The premium list should be sent out in February.  Entries close April 13th. Information is on the
club website.
Reservations at the Radisson hotel are filling up fast. The show special room rate is $95 per
night. This includes parking. The club website has a number to call to book rooms using our
special rate, or you can call the Radisson and ask for the show rate.
The Top 20 event needs 2 volunteers for stewarding. Christi Faulk said she would volunteer.
Dale reviewed the contents of the National Specialty welcome bags. We need donations:
1.         Pads of paper.
2.         2000 clothes pins.
3.        200 rolls of paper towels.
See Dale Van Camp for more information.  Linda Randall will donate scoops, lids and post-it
notes. A party will be held in April to help fill the 200 welcome bags.
Dale Van Camp reported on the club’s tax filing status. The club will officially become a 501c4 – a
tax exempt institution. The club will not be allowed to give out tax exemption receipts for club
donations. If eligible, donators can claim donations as a business expense.

NEW MEMBERS:
Membership applications were presented, and a first reading made, for James and Jacki Travis,
from Santa Anna; Teresa West; and Nona Gow.

NEW BUSINESS:
President Colleen Comber asked if anyone would be available to volunteer time for “meet the
breed” at the Silver Bay dog show on February 26th and 27th. Member at Large Christie Faulk
volunteered to help setup. Contact President Colleen Comber if you want to volunteer.
There were discussions on collages for the upcoming Chihuahua Nationals. Member Linda
Randall is in charge of the collages. If you have any pictures for the collages email them to
Member Linda Randall.
